Gallup extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-16 in the process. They came up short against the Aztec Tigers, falling 13-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-6 last Tuesday.
Gallup saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Truitt Lewis, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Aztec, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.
On Aztec's side, Tyler Ray made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Ray also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Aztec is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-13 otherwise. Ray was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Cory Douglas and Kale Watson did most of the damage at the plate: Douglas went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Watson went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Dalton Wilmer was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Gallup didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 5-1 win against Shiprock on the 24th. As for Aztec, they have also already played their next contest, an 8-5 loss against Kirtland Central on the 24th.
