The Hicks Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Quitman Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hicks will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
Hicks gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Fairview as Hicks made off with a 13-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Courtlyn Dousay made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Dousay was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jayde Wilbanks and Kaydence Hickman did most of the damage at the plate: Wilbanks scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Hickman went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Hickman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abby Addison, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Quitman faced Jena in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Quitman fell just short of Jena by a score of 6-5. It was the first time this season that the Wolverines let down their fans at home.
Like Hicks, Quitman also got a great game from a two-way player: Cali Deal. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Deal was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Maggie Guyotte made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 3-for-4. Karley Huckaby also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Even though they lost, Quitman lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Hicks pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Quitman, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-4.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hicks hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Quitman struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hicks suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Quitman when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Hicks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
