The Ellington Knights will take on the Enfield Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Enfield's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: Ellington hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Knights' pitcher stepped up to hand Simsbury a 7-0 shutout on Thursday. Fans of the Knights have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Simsbury's batters probably weren't too happy with Camryn Fisher, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Fisher has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Madison Havener was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Taylor Havener was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Enfield not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 10, 2024. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over Middletown. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Blue Dragons: they've now won five in a row.
Payten Stebbins made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Stebbins was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Valintakonis, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Hailey Anderson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Ellington's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Enfield, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Ellington beat Enfield 5-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
