The Tanque Verde Hawks will square off against the Empire Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tanque Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Tanque Verde challenged Thatcher on Monday. The Hawks fell 8-5 to the Eagles. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alex Page made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Braden Guest was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Empire waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Phoenix get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The Ravens might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Not much got past Evan Walker, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Tonopah Valley off the board.
On the hitting side, Empire's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Zackary Breinlinger, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Jack Gundrey, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
Empire's win bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Tanque Verde, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-7-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tanque Verde hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Empire struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tanque Verde suffered a grim 17-10 defeat to Empire when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
