The North Broward Prep Eagles typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the NSU University Sharks proved too difficult a challenge. They secured a 65-60 W over the Eagles. The win was all the more spectacular given NSU University's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while North Broward Prep is ranked 20th).
NSU University's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dwight Gaines, who scored 21 points. Gaines hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Ferrer, who scored 16 points.
North Broward Prep lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Raul Perez ruiz, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Perez ruiz hasn't dropped below 15 points for eight straight games. Enrico Borio was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for NSU University and bumps their season record up to 16-5. As for North Broward Prep, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-5.
NSU University won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Martin County at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. Martin County is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for North Broward Prep, they will head out on the road to challenge IMG Academy Gold at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. IMG Academy Gold knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully North Broward Prep likes a good challenge.
