Basketball Recap: Zion Mckenzie Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

It was a Battle of the Birds when Springstead faced off against Leto on Thursday. The Springstead Eagles enjoyed a cozy 46-32 win over the Leto Falcons. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Falcons, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springstead to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zion McKenzie, who posted ten points and five steals. McKenzie is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ryan Sayre, who earned six points along with seven boards and four steals.

Springstead was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leto only posted five assists.

Leto's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakobe Bruton, who had six points in addition to five boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave Bruton a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Damian Gobea, who posted five points and 12 boards.

Springstead has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Leto, they dropped their record down to 1-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Springstead wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-47 victory against Mitchell on the 3rd. As for Leto, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-52 win against Largo on the 3rd.
