Softball Recap: Laurel Highlands Extends Winning Streak to Two

Laurel Highlands barely beat West Mifflin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs never let the Titans get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Monday. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Titans on their field since May 12, 2021.

Payton Senge made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in runs (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harlie Dirda, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liv McClelland, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Laurel Highlands and bumps their season record up to 7-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for West Mifflin, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-3 record.

Coming up, Laurel Highlands will be playing at home against Uniontown at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
