The Glenwood Springs Demons will head out on the road to square off against the Basalt Longhorns at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Glenwood Springs will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Glenwood Springs took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Summit, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Demons had just enough and edged out the Tigers 4-3.
Jackson Irving was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. Irving was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Doll, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Delta hit Basalt with a five-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Longhorns lost 12-2 to the Panthers. The loss continues a trend for the Longhorns in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost eight in a row.
Glenwood Springs pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Basalt, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Glenwood Springs has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Basalt struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Glenwood Springs beat Basalt 14-11 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Demons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
