4A Region I District 1 recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to El Paso, who took down 642nd ranked Burges, 21-14.
The Tigers added to the longest winning streak in 4A Region I District 1 this week by beating the Mustangs, 21-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for El Paso.
Andress's dynamic duo of TROY KLIMANSKY and ELDEN COLEMAN proved to be unstoppable against Jefferson, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. KLIMANSKY threw for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns and COLEMAN had 71 yards receiving. EDDIE SINEGAL helped Andress' passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 68 yards.
Chapin's Seth Gonzales and Brannon Bullitt led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Gonzales has thrown for 1,122 yards this season, while Bullitt has 26 catches for 499 yards. Ricky Olivas from Austin leads the league in rushing with 954 yards.
The Panthers' Olivas is a mere 46 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 108 carries Olivas has accumulated 954 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bowie takes on the Eagles. As it stands, the Bears are in third, while Andress is in fourth.
The league will see a high scoring game when Bowie and Patrick Brown's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Robert Padilla's team comes in having scored 157 this season, while the Eagles have scored 136. The Bears scored 7 points last week as they fell to Chapin.
Edgar Lazcano's team scaled the state rankings by moving to 616 from 707 this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 1. The Tigers were able to move up by defeating Burges 21-14.
