Clovis North has gone 9-1 against Buchanan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Broncos will face off against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clovis North 2.6, Buchanan 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Clovis North is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Everything went their way against Stockdale as they made off with a 10-3 win. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jocelynn Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 23 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jaelyn Clark was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Gentry, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Clovis North always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Buchanan faced Central East in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bears narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bengals 6-4. The game was the first time the Bears have beaten the Bengals on their field since May 5, 2022.
Buchanan also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Brooklyn Ainsworth gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Thimir Bracamontes was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Clovis North has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Buchanan, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-9.
