Oberlin hasn't had much luck against Columbia recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Phoenix will venture away from home to square off against the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. Oberlin has given up an average of 16.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Oberlin is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Firelands, falling 20-3.
Oberlin saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Selena Roberts, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Columbia came out on top against Wellington on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Raiders put the hurt on the Dukes with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by ten runs or more this season.
Sadie Schulke made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last nine games. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bree Heidecker, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Arvieanna Rodgers also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Columbia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The win made it two in a row for Columbia and bumps their season record up to 12-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Oberlin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Oberlin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Oberlin might still be hurting after the 19-0 loss they got from Columbia in their previous matchup last Tuesday. Can the Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
