Meanwhile, Nebraska City opened the new year with a less-than-successful 61-52 defeat to Ralston. The Pioneers have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Ashland-Greenwood will have to keep a close watch on Landon Ferguson and Brayden Earll, a pair of players who had a big impact on Nebraska City's prior game. Ferguson posted 12 points and three steals, while Earll had nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. Ferguson is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Penney, who earned eight points.

Ashland-Greenwood's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Nebraska City, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
