Baseball Recap: Pleasant Grove Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McAdory, Pleasant Grove was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 14-9 win over the Fairfield Tigers. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Caleb Rose made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Pleasant Grove got a massive performance out of Tre'Mell Washington, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Washington also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Pleasant Grove is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kenyon Gunn, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Pleasant Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairfield only posted an OBP of .378.

The victory got Pleasant Grove back to even at 7-7. As for Fairfield, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Looking ahead, Pleasant Grove will venture away from home to challenge Huffman at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fairfield, they have already played their next game, a 14-1 loss against Fultondale on the 21st.
