The Stone Mountain Pirates and the Hapeville Charter Hornets will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Stone Mountain's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 47-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Southwest DeKalb.
Meanwhile, Hapeville Charter unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Druid Hills by a score of 61-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite their loss, Hapeville Charter saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jonathan Goldson, who scored 21 points along with eight steals and six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Goldson hasn't dropped below two steals for 12 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Keith Parker, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Stone Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Hapeville Charter, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-11.
Stone Mountain beat the Hornets 74-65 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stone Mountain since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
