3A Northern recap September 24, 2013
Joe Ramey of Erie ran for the longest rushing play in 3A Northern this season against Mead last week. Ramey ran for 94 yards on the play and finished with 209 on the day as his team lost to the Maverick.
Frederick moved up to 90 from 120 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Warriors were able to move up by defeating Roosevelt 23-20.
Zach Trombley was a key player and the best on defense this week as Holy Family fell to Silver Creek. The 6-foot-0 senior.
Matthew Erb was the best receiver in the league this week as the Tigers fell to the Raptors. Erb tallied 5 receptions for 64 yards. Weston Dinsmore helped Holy Family's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.
Ramey was the best running back in 3A Northern this week. Christian Mickey also contributed to the rushing game with 65 yards on the ground.
Donaciano Ornelas threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 17-31 with 1 interception.
Ornelas put up the best numbers through the air as Denver North lost to Berthoud. Ornelas' favorite target this week was Simeon Freeland, who caught 3 passes for 64 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Taden Blaise of Thomas Jefferson is the league leader in passing yards this season with 758. He has also thrown 7 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Erb. The Holy Family star has 20 catches for 364 yards.
Frederick and the Roughriders played the most contested game in the league this week, with Frederick eventually emerging with a 23-20 victory. Micheal Broz threw for 52 yards and ran for 53 yards during the win.
