The Sutherland Sailors will be home for the holidays to greet the South Platte Blue Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sutherland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Sutherland came up short against Wallace and fell 52-44.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Story Rasby, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Glory Naughtin, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sutherland were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Even though South Platte has not done well against Wauneta-Palisade recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. South Platte snuck past Wauneta-Palisade with a 59-54 win. Winning is a bit easier when you nail eight more threes than your opponent, as South Platte did.
South Platte can attribute much of their success to Isabelle Reichman, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds, and Madison Cheleen, who scored 25 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Reichman has scored at least 25% of South Platte's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Johanna Frerichs, who scored six points along with five assists.
Sutherland bumped their record down to 1-4 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for South Platte, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Sutherland have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.4 threes per game. However, it's not like South Platte struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 threes per game. Given Sutherland's sizeable advantage in that area, South Platte will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sutherland came up short against South Platte in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, falling 40-31. Will Sutherland have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
