Coalfield is a perfect 7-0 against Midway since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will challenge the Green Wave at 5:30 p.m. Coalfield is coming into the contest hot, having won their last ten games.
Coalfield's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Wartburg Central 10-0. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won 17 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Waylon Burgess made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Treece, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Levi Heidel was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Coalfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Midway came into Wednesday's game having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Rockwood on Wednesday as they made off with a 19-2 victory. The Green Wave not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 17th (when they won 18-0).
Like Coalfield, Midway also got a great game from a two-way player: Dawson Buckner. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Buckner was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. He has become a key player for Midway: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-17-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Rowynn McClure was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Midway is 5-1 when McClure posts two or more runs, but 4-16-1 otherwise. Caiden Brewer also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Coalfield's record is now 21-5. As for Midway, their record now sits at 9-17-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Coalfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Midway struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coalfield beat Midway 9-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Yellow Jackets repeat their success, or do the Green Wave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
