Mt. Mansfield has gone 8-1 against Burlington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Seahorses at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mt. Mansfield has three straight wins, Burlington has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Mt. Mansfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: St. Johnsbury Academy, who was ranked 13th at the time (Mt. Mansfield was ranked seventh). The Cougars were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Hilltoppers on Wednesday. The contest marked the Cougars' most dominant victory of the season.
While Mt. Mansfield might've won, it sure wasn't easy: St. Johnsbury Academy scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Burlington came up short against Champlain Valley Union on Wednesday and fell 3-1.
Burlington started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-11.
Mt. Mansfield will have to keep a close watch on Mae Yenkavitch and Harper Gutheim, a pair of players who had a big impact on Burlington's prior game. Yenkavitch had four aces, while Gutheim had two blocks.
Mt. Mansfield's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Burlington, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
Mt. Mansfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Burlington in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 3-1. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Seahorses turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
