It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Calvary Chapel Eagles take on Laguna Hills Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Calvary Chapel managed to slip by Capistrano Valley Christian the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Calvary Chapel came up short against Capistrano Valley Christian on Wednesday, falling 15-3. Calvary Chapel has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Calvary Chapel saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Bos, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Kai Haney also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Laguna Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 18-6 to Dana Hills.
Kassidy Patterson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Julianna Kornegay, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Laguna Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Calvary Chapel, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Laguna Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Calvary Chapel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Laguna Hills, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Calvary Chapel keep running through batters, or will the Hawks buck the trend?
Calvary Chapel came out on top in a nail-biter against Laguna Hills in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
