Springfield gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Triad Cardinals with a sharp 9-1 win. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16, 2024.
Weston Mohler looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Jonathan Western Jr. was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1. Another player making a difference was Tristyn Kennedy, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Triad only posted an OBP of .357.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springfield will face off against Urbana at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Triad, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Triad Cardinals challenge Emmanuel Christian Academy Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
