The North Buncombe Black Hawks had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 78-75 win over A.C. Reynolds. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
North Buncombe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trent Clark, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Clark has scored at least 25% of North Buncombe's points. Another player making a difference was Cole Edmonds, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why A.C. Reynolds lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ty Johnson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Johnson scored 15 or more points. Kaelan Gilliland was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
North Buncombe's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for A.C. Reynolds, they bumped their record down to 4-6 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Buncombe will challenge T.C. Roberson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully T.C. Roberson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday. As for A.C. Reynolds, they will head out on the road to face off against Enka at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
