The Mt. Vernon Wildcats on the road again on Monday and play against the Harrisburg Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on January 15th. Hopefully Mt. Vernon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
Last Friday, Mt. Vernon was able to grind out a solid victory over Southridge, taking the game 49-42. The win was all the more spectacular given Mt. Vernon's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Southridge is ranked 58th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mt. Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nicot Burnett, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jackson Clowers, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Harrisburg came up short against Herrin on Friday and fell 54-43. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Harrisburg in their matchups with Herrin: they've now lost six in a row.
Mt. Vernon's victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6. As for Harrisburg, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.
Mt. Vernon strolled past Harrisburg in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 63-49. Will Mt. Vernon repeat their success, or does Harrisburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
