Softball Game Preview: Wetumpka Indians vs. Calera Eagles

Wetumpka is 6-1 against Calera since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wetumpka Indians will welcome the Calera Eagles at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Wetumpka's favor as the team sits on 31 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Calera has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

Wetumpka is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Percy Julian on Tuesday as Wetumpka made off with a 24-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 13 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Bailey Carlise was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Farmer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs.

Carlise wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Wetumpka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Percy Julian only managed one hit.

Meanwhile, Calera didn't have quite enough to beat McAdory on Tuesday and fell 5-4.

Isabelle Overton was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Megan Overton was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Wetumpka's win bumped their record up to 21-2. As for Calera, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Calera's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wetumpka has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. It's a different story for Calera, though, as they've only averaged .315. Will they be able to contain Wetumpka's hitters?

Wetumpka was able to grind out a solid victory over Calera in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. Will Wetumpka repeat their success, or does Calera have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
