Lincoln is 1-9 against Madison since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Abes will challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Lincoln put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They blew past Eastpointe 23-10.
Jonathan Holt was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with seven stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Hummel, who went 2-for-3 with seven stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Madison came tearing into Thursday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Cavaliers. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Landon Wargo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Wargo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Madison got a massive performance out of Malachi Allen, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Allen has launched this season. Shawn Dennis was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .639 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Madison's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.3 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
Lincoln might still be hurting after the 24-10 loss they got from Madison when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Abes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
