The Grenada Chargers won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were dealt a 79-52 loss at the hands of Center Hill. While losing is never fun, Grenada can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 28th).
Grenada lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lauren Harges, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Harges hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlei Brown, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Zarria Shipp was nothing short of spectacular for Center Hill: she scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Madison S. hughes was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
Grenada's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Center Hill, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Grenada won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Coffeeville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Center Hill does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
