Charter Oak has been on the road for two straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Ayala Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Charter Oak will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Last Friday, Charter Oak blew past Alta Loma, posting a 41-7 victory on the road. Given Charter Oak's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Alta Loma is ranked 625th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Charter Oak's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corin Berry, who threw for 116 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Torry Huff, who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Alta Loma to a paltry 212 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Charter Oak's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was LaVar Arrington and his 2.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, Ayala sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 29-26 victory over Bonita on Friday.
Marquis Monroe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 176 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picking up 104 receiving yards and a touchdown. Monroe was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximus Barroso, who threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes.
Their wins bumped Charter Oak to 2-6 and Ayala to 4-4.
Charter Oak won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, slipping by Ayala 30-29. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Ayala's Jacob Munoz, who rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Charter Oak to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
