Basketball Recap: North White Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Chris Annis and Fernando Gomez

North White was the 46-45 winner over South Newton when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The North White Vikings fell just short of the South Newton Rebels by a score of 35-32 on Saturday.

Fernando Gomez and Chris Annis certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Gomez posted six points along with 11 boards and four blocks, while Annis went 6 of 13 on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Gomez a new career-high in blocks.

Even though they lost, North White was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Leading South Newton to victory were Colton Marks and Jeffrey Forney. Marks went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and three steals, while Forney had seven points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Marks has scored at least a third of South Newton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Coleman, who put up.

North White's loss was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11. As for South Newton, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North White will venture away from home to take on Frontier at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Newton, they will head out to square off against Milford at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
