The Union County Fightin' Tigers will head out to challenge the Trinity Catholic Celtics at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Union County will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Union County had just enough and edged out Dunnellon 3-2. The three-run effort marked the Fightin' Tigers' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
The team relied heavily on Jeffrey Brugh, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Trenton Klein, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Trinity Catholic never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Forest. The Celtics haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Gavin Greathouse looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Trinity Catholic's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Tommy Silva was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
Union County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs over those games. As for Trinity Catholic, their record now sits at 4-2.
Union County's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. Union County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Trinity Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Union County continue to outrun the ball?
Union County came up short against Trinity Catholic in their previous matchup on February 10th, falling 10-6. Can Union County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
