If The Berean Christian Eagles were riding high off their 56-8 takedown of the Ygnacio Valley Wolves last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Berean Christian lost to Mt. Diablo at home by a decisive 55-40 margin on Saturday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Despite the loss, Berean Christian still got an impressive performance from Joshua Werner, who threw for 485 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt. Werner hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jacob ?jake? silva, who picked up 198 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
It was another big night for Herschel Turner Jr, who rushed for 413 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 18.0 yards per carry. Turner Jr's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakorey Robinson, who rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Mt. Diablo's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Kaile Leffel and his two sacks.
Berean Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6-1. As for Mt. Diablo, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berean Christian will challenge Willits at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Willits will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. As for Mt. Diablo, they will head out on the road to face off against Acalanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Acalanes presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mt. Diablo in California (Acalanes is ranked 128th, while Mt. Diablo is ranked 679th).
