Centura has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Wood River Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Centura focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Centura can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent match. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 57-22 win over Arcadia/Loup City. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-8.
Centura's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyra Wooden, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and five steals. Wooden is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last eight games she's played. Carlie Sokol was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Wood River sidestepped the Cardinals for a 48-45 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Wood River has posted against the Cardinals since February 8, 2019.
Wood River's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Morgan, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Sidney Frear, who scored ten points.
Centura pushed their record up to 13-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Wood River, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Centura have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wood River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Centura beat the Eagles 40-27 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Does Centura have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
