Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Mountain Brook Spartans, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell to the Cougars 17-13. While losing is never fun, Mountain Brook can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Clay-Chalkville is ranked second).
When it comes to explaining why Mountain Brook lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Cole Gamble. Despite the final result, he rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown. Gamble hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for seven straight games.
Mountain Brook's defeat ended a 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-4. As for Clay-Chalkville, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Mountain Brook does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Clay-Chalkville will take on Muscle Shoals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Muscle Shoals is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
