After both having extra time off, the Crenshaw Cougars and the George Washington Prep Generals will shake off the rust and duke it out at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Crenshaw and Hawkins meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again last Wednesday. The Cougars came up short against the Hawks, falling 25-17.
Meanwhile, George Washington Prep came tearing into last Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bulldogs 24-5. Considering the Generals have won six contests by more than 11 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aracely Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, George Washington Prep let Holland Allen and Emily Varela run wild. Allen went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs, while Varela got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those six RBI gave Allen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zachery Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
George Washington Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jordan only posted an OBP of .464.
George Washington Prep pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.7 runs over those games. As for Crenshaw, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Crenshaw suffered a grim 20-14 defeat to George Washington Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
