The Weldon Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warren County Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Weldon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Tuesday, Weldon earned a 47-40 victory over North Edgecombe. The win was just what Weldon needed coming off of a 65-44 loss in their prior game.
Weldon can attribute much of their success to Kamya Coles, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals, and Shaelyn Johnson, who scored 13 points along with five steals. Johnson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Warren County can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 1-0 victory over KIPP P. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Warren County has scored all season.
Weldon's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Warren County, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-7.
Weldon was able to grind out a solid victory over Warren County in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 49-40. Will Weldon repeat their success, or does Warren County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
