It was a good run, but the Hammond Skyhawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They were dealt a 73-34 loss at the hands of South Pointe. While losing is never fun, Hammond can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while South Pointe is ranked fourth).
It was another big night for Victoria Morris, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds for South Pointe. That makes it four consecutive games in which Morris has scored at least 25% of South Pointe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleigh Lucas, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Hammond's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for South Pointe, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Hammond will finish 2023 at home by hosting Crestwood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. South Pointe will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Eau Claire at 5:00 p.m. on December 29th.
