Holston has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Honaker Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Holston will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 404th, while Honaker is ranked 59th).
Last Tuesday, Holston came up short against Patrick Henry and fell 49-40.
Meanwhile, Honaker had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lebanon 55-9 at home. Honaker has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 23 points or more this season.
Honaker's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tailor Nolley, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Nolley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Kathryn Jessee was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Holston's loss was their tenth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Honaker, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Holston was taken down by Honaker 71-22 in their previous meeting on January 9th. Can Holston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
