Assumption has gone a perfect 3-0 against Amherst recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Royals will welcome the Falcons at 4:45 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Assumption not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 10th (when they won 11-1). They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Edgar. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Royals.
Ari Cavanaugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Cavanaugh was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Assumption let Breanna Aue and Elayna Aue run wild. Breanna went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Elayna went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Reagan Stublaski, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Assumption kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Amherst's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Iola-Scandinavia on Thursday. The Falcons' pitcher stepped up to hand Menominee Nation a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Falcons have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sam Nooyen made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Presley Voss, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Aubrey Chandler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Amherst's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Assumption, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Assumption skirted past Amherst 2-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Will the Royals repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
