The Kit Carson Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Stratton at home and fell 65-35. While losing is never fun, Kit Carson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Eagles are ranked 96th).
Kit Carson's loss came despite strong showings from Josiah Irwin and Brennan Framel. Irwin almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds, while Framel scored seven points along with seven rebounds and six assists. That was a full 40% of Kit Carson's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Leading Stratton to victory were Brody Webb and Jose Gallardo. Webb scored 14 points along with three steals, while Gallardo dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Gallardo pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cyler Notter, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Kit Carson's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Stratton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Kit Carson will head out on the road to take on the Panthers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Flagler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday. As for Stratton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Allowing an average of 56.7 points per game, Deer Trail has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest.
