The Otay Ranch Mustangs struggled with assists on Friday (the Montgomery Aztecs had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Otay Ranch was dealt a 60-27 defeat at the hands of the Aztecs. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Otay Ranch in their matchups with the Aztecs: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the loss, Otay Ranch still got an impressive performance from Percy Whittaker, who scored five points along with five rebounds and two steals.
It was another big night for Jj Sanchez, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five assists for Montgomery. Sanchez has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Alek Sanchez was another key contributor, scoring five points along with ten assists and eight rebounds.
Otay Ranch's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-17. As for Montgomery, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 21-2.
Otay Ranch will head out on the road to take on the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. San Ysidro is on a four-game streak of home losses, the Mustangs a six-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. Montgomery will take on the Barons at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bonita Vista has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 210 points over their last three matchups.
