Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Thoreau Hawks, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were outmatched by Raton at home and fell 35-8. Thoreau's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Isaac Bear Eagle threw for 91 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Calladitto was his top target, picking up 45 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Raton was led to victory by Joseph Saenz and Cannon Walton. Saenz rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown, while Walton rushed for 125 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Saenz was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards.
Thoreau's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Raton, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.
Thoreau does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Raton will head out on the road to face off against St. Michael's at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Michael's will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
