The Shaw Cardinals lost against the Benedictine Bengals back in November of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Shaw fell 57-46 to Benedictine. While losing is never fun, Shaw can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 467th, while Benedictine is ranked 171st).
Benedictine's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Torres, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Kris Smith, who scored 13 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Shaw's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-3. As for Benedictine, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shaw will be home for the holidays to greet Cornerstone Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cornerstone Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Shaw likes a good challenge. Benedictine will be home for the holidays to greet Garfield Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Garfield Heights will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
