The Pinecrest Patriots will head out to face off against the Montgomery Central Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pinecrest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.3 runs per game this season.
Jack Britt hit Pinecrest with a four-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Patriots fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Patriots have suffered against the Buccaneers since April 19, 2018.
Leah Gordon put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Gordon was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Gordon wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kendrick Williams, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Makynli Garske also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montgomery Central). They never let Lexington Senior get on the board and left with a 24-0 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won four matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Like Pinecrest, Montgomery Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Meredith Spivey. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave Spivey a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Annabelle Spivey was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February of 2025. Another player making a difference was Brylee Fink, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Montgomery Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Montgomery Central and bumps their season record up to 6-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Pinecrest, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 6-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pinecrest has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Montgomery Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pinecrest might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Montgomery Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
