Lamar Consolidated hasn't had much luck against Victoria East recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Titans at 6:00 p.m. Lamar Consolidated has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lamar Consolidated managed to slip by Randle the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Mustangs lost 12-4 to the Lions on Friday.
Sam Johnson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Randall Sosnowski was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Victoria East came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Pirates get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Victoria East let Bentley Blinka and Caden Krawietz run wild. Blinka went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Krawietz went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Parker Baros, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Victoria East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Victoria East's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Lamar Consolidated, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-17.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lamar Consolidated has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Victoria East struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lamar Consolidated couldn't quite finish off Victoria East in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 and fell 5-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
