Having just played yesterday, the Academy at the Lakes Wildcats will get right back to it and host the Canterbury Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Academy at the Lakes can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They blew past Lakeland Christian 57-24 at home. The win was just what Academy at the Lakes needed coming off of a 64-30 defeat in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Canterbury had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against Gulf Coast HEAT as Canterbury made off with a 50-29 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Canterbury has posted since November 28, 2023.
Zy'nasia Alhuzaifi continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Ja'maria Long, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
The win got Academy at the Lakes back to even at 5-5. As for Canterbury, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Academy at the Lakes came up short against Canterbury in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 54-46. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Alhuzaifi, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
