If the New Bloomfield Wildcats were riding high off their 70-41 takedown of the Community Trojans last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. New Bloomfield took a 41-27 bruising from Sturgeon on Saturday. New Bloomfield was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sturgeon apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacob Fuhriman, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Jordan, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two steals.
New Bloomfield's lineup was just a bit different on Saturday as Eric Massman got a bit more time on the court (18 vs. his season average of 7.47). Massman made the most of the opportunity, scoring six points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Sturgeon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Josh Kelly out in front who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Lawson, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
New Bloomfield has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Sturgeon, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Bloomfield will take on Russellville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. New Bloomfield is coming into the game with three straight losses at home, meaning Russellville will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. Sturgeon will take on Northeast at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Missouri (Sturgeon is ranked 419th, while Northeast is ranked 408th).
