Sevier County is 9-1 against Gatlinburg-Pittman since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Smoky Bears will be playing at home against the Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. Sevier County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
On Thursday, Sevier County earned a 13-8 victory over PikeView.
Jade Hubbard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Ashley Morgan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Emma McClure was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Gatlinburg-Pittman suffered their closest loss since May 2, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of PikeView by a score of 6-4.
Bailey Norris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Alexis Stooksbury and Ashlynn Kunkle did some serious damage despite the final result: Stooksbury got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, while Kunkle earned two runs and four stolen bases.
Sevier County pushed their record up to 10-10 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sevier County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gatlinburg-Pittman struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sevier County took their win against Gatlinburg-Pittman in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 17-2 score. Will the Smoky Bears repeat their success, or do the Highlanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
