Memorial dropped their record down to 10-10 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Mineral Ridge Rams by a score of 11-9. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 last Monday.
Ramani Adams was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off nine hits. Adams was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mileesa Williams and Mileena Williams did some serious damage despite the final result: Mileesa went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Mileena went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Mileesa has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Emily Cleland, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
As for Mineral Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.
Like Memorial, Mineral Ridge also got a great game from a two-way player: Lily Merolillo. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Merolillo has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matchups.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Gerberry, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Sullivan Sandy was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Memorial will look to defend their home field on Monday against Brookfield at 5:00 p.m. As for Mineral Ridge, they will head out to take on McDonald at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
