Ahoskie Christian took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Saturday. They walked away with a 44-35 victory over Liberty Christian Academy.
Ahoskie Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lilly Lassiter out in front who went 7 of 17 en route to 16 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Dunlow, who posted six points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Ahoskie Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty Christian Academy only posted six assists.
Meanwhile, everything went Gramercy Christian's way against Bethel Christian Academy on Friday as Gramercy Christian made off with a 54-29 victory. The Warriors pushed the score to 46-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans cut but never quite recovered from.
Ahoskie Christian better keep an eye on Mimi Johnson. She was instrumental in Gramercy Christian's win, going 7 of 12 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Those 15 points gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinley Butler, who had seven points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.
Gramercy Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.8 points per game. As for Ahoskie Christian, their record now sits at 5-6.
