The Webber Trojans had to endure a 21-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 42-38 W over Cobden on Saturday. The win was just what Webber needed coming off of a 60-22 loss in their prior contest.
Webber found their leader in underclassman Chloe King, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. That makes it six consecutive games in which King has scored at least a third of Webber's points. Laney Hails was another key contributor, scoring four points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Cobden saw an underclassman step up: Natalie Franklin dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Franklin has scored all season.
Webber's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-21. As for Cobden, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Webber will stay at home for another game and welcome the Indians at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th. Johnston City will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Cobden, they will be playing at home against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Averaging 59.96 points so far this season, Pope County's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Appleknockers better be ready for a challenge.
