Owen Shaffer was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with six stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Shane Elmquist was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Malik Terry, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Hampton County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Barnwell lost 8-1 to Greenville on Saturday.
Case Davis made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Hampton County now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Barnwell, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hampton County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 13.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Barnwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hampton County suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Barnwell when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Hurricanes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
