Sachem East will head out on the road to square off against the William Floyd Colonials at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sachem East is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Sachem East was beaten by the Wildcats 72-37. Sachem East has struggled against the Wildcats recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, William Floyd came tearing into Tuesday's game with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Longwood 69-40 on the road. William Floyd has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.
William Floyd relied on the efforts of Shy Hawkins, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds, and Kayla Gilmore, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Gilmore is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqueline Sutherland, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.
Sachem East's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for William Floyd, their win bumped their record up to 14-1.
Sachem East opened the new year with a less-than-successful 51-39 defeat to the Colonials. Can Sachem East avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
